The Tie That Bonds Chapter 17 Mia sat on the grass as she watched the other students play on the play ground. That morning, when she woke up, she had walked in the kitchen to find Heero and Trowa fighting again. In fact, it was the arguing that had waken her. When they noticed her entrance, they had stopped, but she could feel that they were mad at each other. "Mia, let's go play on the slide." Aya offered as she stood in front of her friend. "Mia, what's wrong?" "Heero and Trowa were fighting yesterday." Emily explained as she sat down next to her friend. "They were fighting again this morning." Mia added. "I don't know why they're fighting so much." "They're probably going to break up." Chad announced and the three girls looked over at him. "Grown ups only fight when they hate each other." "Nuh-uh. Heero says they fight because he's frustrated." Mia defended and glared at the little boy. "What does fruster rated mean?" Aya asked and kneeled before Mia. "It means that he sometimes gets disappointed with himself." "Mum says that Trowa and Heero shouldn't be together any ways." "Why not?" "Because pops says that what they're doing is a sin." "What's a sin?" "It's when bad people do bad things and they go to Hell because of it." Chad snickered as tears welled in Mia's eyes. "Trowa and Heero aren't bad people." "My pops says they're nothing but a couple of bloody queers." "You take that back!" Mia shouted and jumped to her feet. Seeing the glare in her eyes, Chad turned and started running from the group of girls. Not wanting to let this go without an apology, Mia ran after him. Aya and Emily jumped to their feet to follow. "Help!" Chad screamed as Mia tackled him to the grass. In an instant, she was on top of the boy, punching him as hard as she could. Suddenly, a teacher barged through the kids and pulled Amelia from the little boy. It was then that Mia realized that Chad wasn't moving any longer. Mia wiped the tears from her eyes as Trowa emerged from the principle's office. She knew he was upset with her. The silent glares were enough to prove that. He signed a paper, then walked over to Mia. She slid out of her chair as he stood before her. "I'm sorry Trowa." She whispered, not able to look him in the eye. The Latin didn't say anything as he lead the way from the school office. They walked through the halls in silence. Mia wanted him to say something, but didn't want to encourage being scorned or yelled at for her mistake. Sometimes, with Trowa and Heero, the worse thing they could do to her was to stay silent. It often meant that they were extremely disappointed in her, and that bothered her more than physical discipline. The worse of it would come from Heero. It was this thought alone that caused her to slow her pace, and fall further behind Trowa. When she looked up to apologize again, her voice caught in her throat. There was a man wearing a black suit walking down the hall opposite them. He was a thin man with jet black hair. His eyes were hidden behind sunglasses, but a scar ran diagonally down his left cheek. Mia stopped dead in her tracks as she suddenly recognized the man as the one that had been haunting her dreams for the pass couple of nights. Noticing the lack of footfalls, Trowa stopped and turned to face her. "Amelia, come on." He coaxed, but she remained where she was. . .her eyes never leaving the man in black that was getting closer. She shook her head slowly and began to step backwards. "Mia, what's wrong?" Noting the stare, Trowa looked back at the man coming from behind. Without warning, he drew a gun from his jacket. In a flash, Trowa ran down the hall toward Mia. He scooped the small child into his arms and continued running just as a gun shot echoed through the empty halls. "It's the bad man." Mia cried as she held tightly to Trowa's shirt. The ex-pilot barged through the large double doors into the afternoon sunlight. Facing the man head on would be dangerous in this area. . .especially with all the children. A second later, the enemy emerged from the school and shot again. Trowa ran toward the parking lot, hoping to find a quick escape with the car. . .unfortunately, all four tires had been slashed. Another bullet barely missed him as it shattered the windshield of the car. Mia buried her face in the depths of Trowa's shirt as he started running again. The man pursued the runaway pair. With Mia as extra weight, he was gaining fast to the Latin. It was when they came to a bridge crossing a freeway that Trowa saw his opportunity to ditch the man. "Mia, I need you to hold onto to me as tightly as you can." He informed as he stopped running and jumped onto the edge of the bridge. "And close your eyes." She nodded and did as she was told. Just as the man fired again, Trowa leapt from the bridge and landed on the trailer of a semi truck. "Can I look?" She asked and opened her eyes. As she looked over Trowa's shoulder, she could see the man still standing at the bridge. When she looked down and realized where she was, she clung even more tightly to the thin frame. "What's going on Trowa?" She cried and he held her in his arms. "It's going to be okay. I won't let anything happen to you." "Where's Heero?" "We're going to see him right now." "When are we going to get off of this truck?" Heero could feel the brown eyes watching him. The owner of those eyes was named LaNease. She was a coworker that had been flirting with the Japanese man ever since he started working at the salvage yard. Presently, she was advancing toward him, smiling as always. "Hey Heero. How about I take you for lunch." Heero didn't respond, he only signed Duo's name to the incoming shipment. He then began shifting through the delivery. "Are you ever going to talk to me?" She asked as she placed herself between him and his work. "Are you done?" He questioned before pushing her out of his way. "I love it when men are rough." She cooed and pressed her body against his back. "Come on Heero, I could probably give you the best fuck of your life." Once again he pushed her away. "Look, LaNease. . ." He turned to face her in time to see that she had ripped open the front of her shirt to reveal her bare breast. "Wouldn't you rather suck on these for a change?" "I like the taste of dick." At that moment, Heero heard someone approaching from the left. He looked up to see Trowa with a frighten Amelia in his arms. Without another word, he walked away from LaNease to his lover. "Heero!" Mia cried and squirmed from Trowa's arms. She ran over to the stronger man, and he picked her up upon arrival. "Heero, it was scary. The bad man was at school." She cried loudly and hugged him closely. His eyes turned toward Trowa for an explanation. "We should move. I'll explain on the way." Heero nodded and headed toward the office. Duo was inside, leaning back in his chair, talking on the phone with someone. Seeing the serious look in Heero's eyes, he hung up, claiming to call back. "What's up?" Heero pulled out his car keys and tossed them to Duo. "Oh, hell no. Again?" "There's no choice." Sighing, the American stood and fished his own keys from his front pocket. He then threw them to Heero before turning to the bottom draw of the desk. He pulled out a envelope and handed it to Trowa. Inside, was every penny that had been saved in the pass five years. After their first experience, they wouldn't rely on banks again. Mia slowly opened her eyes as she continued to lay in the back seat of the car. She thought for sure that they would have been home by now. Instead, they were somewhere else. "Heero, don't do this to yourself." Trowa spoke softly. "We've done it before, we can do it again." "So we're going to be doomed to run from these guys?" "I don't like it anymore than you do, but right now we're vulnerable. We can't risk it." "What are you going to tell Mia? You know she's going to question." "I'm aware. . .I just don't know how to explain this to her." A small silence descended the two when something caught the corner of Heero's eye. He looked in the rear view mirror to find a Sedan approaching at an alarming rate. Trowa sat up straight as he too noticed the car. Feeling the anxiety, Mia sat up straight as well. "What's going on?" She asked softly. Trowa turned in his seat in time to witness the Sedan pulling into the lane next to them; and revealing a similar car also gaining. "Mia, sit in the floor and cover your head." Trowa instructed. "But. . ." "Do it!" Heero barked as the Sedan pulled next to them. Fearing the tone of Heero's voice, she unfasten her seat belt and crawled into the floor behind Trowa's seat. Trowa pulled a gun from the back of his jeans. The passenger side window of the Sedan rolled down to reveal the barrel of a shotgun. At the same instant, the second Sedan rammed them from behind. Mia screamed as she was thrown against the seat. This was followed by a gun shot, squealing of tires, and a truck horn "What's happening?" Mia cried and tried to look up, but Trowa snatched her from the back seat. "Hold on to me." Trowa ordered, and Mia obeyed. With the child clinging tightly to him, he climbed out of the passenger window. Trowa pushed off from the roof of the car, landing perfectly on the telephone wire above. Mia looked down in time to see a car smash into the front of a semi truck. The truck attempted to stop, but was going too fast; causing the large trailer to swerve across the whole length of the road. A split second later, the Firebird that Heero was driving crashed into the truck trailer, and was squished by the still approaching second Sedan. "HEERO!!!" Mia tried to squirm from Trowa in an attempt to get to the Japanese man. "Mia, stop!" For the first time, Trowa's voice was stern like Heero's. She turned her tear filled blue eyes to him as he regained balance. "He-Heero? Is he?" Her small chest began to heavily heave as she thought about this. Trowa didn't answer. He only surveyed the accident below. No one was moving. Tears burned the emerald eyes as he ran the length of the telephone wire to the truck trailer. As he hopped onto the overturned trailer, the truck driver emerged from the cab. A steady stream of blood was trailing down the side of his face. He looked around at the three cars, then up at Trowa. "How did you get up there?" At that moment, the driver side window of the Firebird was broken, and Heero climbed through. "Heero!" Mia was set down on the trailer. "Stay here." Trowa informed and leapt down to aid his boyfriend. Heero fell from the window, hitting his head against the cement. "Hey, mister, are you okay?" The truck driver asked in concern. Trowa kneeled next to the Japanese man and helped him to his feet.
